Mauritius Examinations Syndicate








The Mauritius Examinations Syndicate (MES) is a corporate body set up by the MES Act No. 4 of 1984 under the aegis of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Human Resources to organise and conduct examinations and to award certificates.


Qualifications / Profile of Applicants


A.        Either :           Cambridge School Certificate with credit  in at least five subjects including

                                    English Language,  and any two Science subjects including Biology, Chemistry or

                                    Physics obtained at one and the same sitting.


            Or        :           General Certificate of Education “Ordinary Level” with passes not below Grade C

in at least five subjects including English Language and any two Science subjects including Biology,  Chemistry or Physics obtained at one and the same sitting.


            Or        :           Acceptable alternative qualifications.


Note    :           Candidates not possessing a credit in English Language at the Cambridge School

Certificate will also be considered provided they possess passes in at least two

subjects at “Principal Level” and one subject at “Subsidiary Level” as well as the General Paper obtained on one certificate at the Cambridge Higher School Certificate Examination.     


B.        A Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety as laid down in the Occupational Safety, Health and Welfare Act.


            Candidates should be registered Health  and Safety Officers.


            Experience in the field of Occupational Safety and Health would be an advantage. Candidates should produce written evidence of any experience claimed.




Terms and Conditions


The appointment will be on a one year contract basis in the first instance with the possibility of extension or being considered on a permanent basis upon satisfactory service thereafter.


Salary :     Rs 11,700 (all inclusive)


Duties  :    The duties are laid down as per Scheme of Service.



Mode of Application


Application forms together with the Scheme of Service are available (during office hours on week days, between 08:45 and 16:00 hours) at the Reception Counter of the Mauritius Examinations Syndicate, Réduit or on the MES Website



The application forms duly filled in and signed, together with photocopies of all Educational / Professional / Technical certificates and written evidence of any experience claimed along with a motivation letter (in your own handwriting)  and a ‘Morality Certificate’ should reach the Secretary, MES, Réduit by Monday 28 September 2009 at 15:00 hours at latest.   The envelope should indicate clearly the post applied for on the top left-hand corner.


Only the best candidates will be convened for an interview.
