Notes:

Non-citizens travelling to Mauritius as tourists/visitors or on business should produce the following documents to the Immigration Officer on their arrival:

- Valid passport or recognized travel document with expiry date beyond the intended period of stay

- Valid return or onward tickets to their country of origin or residence

- Confirmed booking for accommodation in Mauritius or letter of invitation from local sponsor/contact in Mauritius

- Proof of sufficient funds to meet the costs of their stay in Mauritius

- Eligibility to re-enter their country of origin or residence

The following documents should be submitted on Application for a Visa to enter Mauritius:

• Visa Application Form duly filled and signed by applicant

• Two recent passport-size photos of the applicant.

• Photocopy of the data pages of applicant's passport.

• A copy of the Residence Permit. (Applicable for applicants not residing in their country of origin). Same to be valid for at least three months after proposed date of departure from Mauritius.

• In case of business visa, applicant should also submit a letter from local sponsor/company.

Immigration Requirements/Conditions to be fulfilled for considering the grant of visa:

Applicant should:-

• Hold a valid Passport or other recognized travel document, with expiry date beyond the intended period of stay.

• Hold a valid return or onward passage ticket to his/her country of origin or residence.

• Have sufficient funds to meet the cost of stay (a minimum of 100 U.S Dollars per night to stay in Mauritius

• Have a confirmed booking for accommodation in Mauritius. If sponsored by a Mauritian citizen, latter to submit:-

(a) A Letter of Sponsorship stating:

(i) name, address,
(ii) Telephone number,
(iii) profession of the sponsor and
(iv) relationship with the applicant,

(b) National Identity Card,

(c) A Utility Bill.

• Be eligible to re-enter their country of origin or residence.

• Do not engage in any gainful activities without a valid work permit

NOTE

• A visa does not guarantee admission into Mauritius. The final decision to admit a passenger rests with the Immigration Officer after examination at the point of entry in Mauritius.

• Applicants should wait for the outcome of their application before undertaking any travel to Mauritius.

(c) More information on visa is available on http//:passport.gov.mu.

(d) Passengers coming to Mauritius other than for the purpose of tourism, visits or business, should obtain prior authority from the Passport and Immigration Office before undertaking any travel to Mauritius.

(e) Any person who wishes to seek employment or to engage in any gainful occupation in Mauritius will not be allowed to enter Mauritius unless he is holder of a valid residence permit and a work permit issued by the Mauritian authorities.

(f) Non-citizens travelling to Mauritius as tourists/visitors will not be issued any permits or extension of visas to follow studies/training courses. Prospective students are advised to travel to Mauritius only after their application for study/training in Mauritius would have been approved.

(g) Holders of unrecognized passports, Stateless, Political Refugees and holders of Travel Documents should apply and obtain an Entry Visa before undertaking any travel to Mauritius.

(h) The final decision to admit a passenger into Mauritius rests solely on the Immigration Authorities after examination at points of entry in Mauritius.

(i) RESTRICTED AND PROHIBITED GOODS
The importation of certain goods is restricted. Such goods may be imported to Mauritius subject to a permit duly approved by a competent Mauritian authority.

Importing prohibited goods are liable to penalties and imprisonment.
List of restricted and prohibited goods:

• arms and ammunition (restricted)
• drugs and psychotropic substances (restricted)
• publications, films or video cassettes of an obscene nature (prohibited)
• sugar cane cuttings, vegetables, flowers or plants (prohibited)
• live or stuffed animals (prohibited)
• underwater fishing guns (prohibited)
• cigarette paper (prohibited)

(j) If a passenger is 16 years of age or over he/she may bring in the following goods, free of customs duty:

(i) tobacco (including cigars and cigarettes) not exceeding 250 grammes
(ii) spirits not exceeding 1 litre
(iii) wine, ale or beer not exceeding 2 litres in all

(k) The currency of Mauritius is the Mauritian Rupee Rs).

American Express, Diners, MasterCard and Visa credit cards are accepted in Mauritius. Money changers operate at the airport and throughout the island.
