MRA walks against corruption

The ‘International Anti – Corruption Day’ was celebrated in Mauritius on the 9th December 2009. To mark this event, the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) organized an Anti-Corruption walk from the Champ de Mars to the Port Louis Caudan Waterfront. As a sign of its unflinching support to combating Fraud, Tax evasion and Corruption as a whole, the Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA) participated in this walk. The objective was to build up corruption resistance in organization.

  • Professional and Practical Training Workshop

The MRA participated in an educational session organized by the Mauritius Export Association (MEXA) for some 25 participants on 9th December 2009. The theme of the training was “Professional and Practical Training.” The session took place at the IVTB House, Phoenix from 08h30 to 12h00. Mr. M.Oozeer, Section Head, Operational Services Department (MRA) imparted his knowledge and experience in corporate tax & PAYE. Mr. R. Thecka, Officer, Taxpayer Education & Communication Department (MRA) offered an interactive session on VAT. The participants were enthusiastic and the practical side of taxation was discussed.

 

Awareness programme for enhancing tax administration in Rodrigues

MRA is determined to provide quality services to taxpayers in Rodrigues, thus enabling them to participate and contribute in the economic and social development of the island. In December 2009 MRA organised a training session for the nine Customs officers posted in the island. A team leader from the Medium and Small Taxpayers Department, Mr. Tacouri, made presentation on MRA's project to strengthen the administration of all taxes/ duties in Rodrigues.

All the participants have shown keen interest and they are eager to acquire the knowledge and skills to participate in enhancing tax administration and providing constantly improving  quality services to taxpayers in Rodrigues.


End of Year Lunch
 

As usual, in the festive mood at the end of year, the MRA organised a End of year lunch on 23 December 2009 at the Swami Vivekananda International Convention Centre, Pailles. The chief guest for this event, the Vice-Prime Minister and Minister of Finance and Economic Empowerment, Honorable Dr. Ramakrishna Sithanen said a few words to the members of the Staff. He thanked them for their relentless efforts and talked about the positive results from hard work of all MRA staff.
