MRA Blood Donation 2010

To mark the 4th Anniversary of MRA, a blood donation campaign was organized at five points of collection on Thursday 01 July 2010. The Minister of Health and Quality of Life, the Hon. Mrs Maya Hanoomanjee attended the ceremony as Chief Guest. 546 pints of blood were collected from the five collection points namely: Ehram Court, IKS Building, New Customs House, PATS, Arrival Hall SSR Airport.On this occasion, the MRA Staff Annual Magazine 2010 was also launched. The Magazine gives an insight of the different in-house activities which have taken place during the last year and is used as a platform for employees to express themselves and share their ideas, views and comments.

Medical Check Up at the NCH

Since its inception in July 2006, the MRA has constantly endeavoured to find out ways and means to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of its workforce. As a caring organization, it has always catered for the welfare of its staff. In this context, MRA organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Quality of Life, a 3-day medical check-up at the New Customs House, Mer Rouge from 5th to 7th July 2010 for all Customs Department staff.This is the second Medical Check-up organised by the MRA for its staff this year. The first one was organised at the MRA headquarters, Ehram Court, Port Louis in February 2010.

Training on Ethics

Two half-day training sessions on Ethics were held on 07 and 08 July 2010 at the MRA Headquarters, Ehram Court. Around 30 participants from the relevant Departments and Divisions of the MRA, namely from Medium & Small Taxpayers Department, Operational Services Department, Large Taxpayers Department and Customs Department attended the training. The participants showed a keen interest on the subject and were very interactive. Some of the topics covered in the training were : offences under the Human Resources Management Manual, the disciplinary sanctions, types of misconduct, rights of employees under Employment Relation Act and Employment Rights Act.

Donation by Customs Department

On Thursday 29 July 2010 at the New Customs House, the staff of the Customs Department  of the MRA took the noble initiative of helping the needy. Upon a request made by the Head Master of Emmanuel Anquetil Government School of Roche Bois, 5 pack of clothes and foodstuffs were collected by  Customs staff .  A Donation Ceremony was presided by Mr Mario Hannelas, Acting Director General of the MRA in the presence of the "Groupe Mouvement Social of Roche Bois" represented by Mr Ratna. Mr v. Ramburun, Acting Director Customs,  Mr V.Ramnundun, Director Human Resource and Traning and different Section Heads at Customs department were present during the ceremony.

Training Program on Enhancing Internal Controls & Governance

In its endeavour to promote internal controls and Governance, the MRA has launched a series of training programs on the role and responsibilities of Officers at supervisory and management levels with respect to internal controls.The first training session was held on 23rd July 2010 at the MRA headquarters, Port Louis. The program was led by the Internal Audit Division.

The objective of the program is to develop a mindset of internal control within each Department by:

  1. Building awareness, creating understanding and accountability; and
  2. Eliciting employee support for implementing an on-going internal control review program within their respective duties.
