 SADC Risk management Course

In line with the process of creating a Southern African Development Community (SADC) region-wide Customs capacity building and training network, the MRA hosted the SADC Risk Management Course from 22 to 26 February 2010 at Le Meridian Hotel at Pointe aux Piments, Mauritius.

 

The adoption of risk management forms an integral part of MRA's organisational philosophy as it provides quantifiable improvements in the effectiveness and efficiency of Customs administration. Officers of the Customs Department of the MRA were given the opportunity to seize technical expertise in this constantly changing domain. The main areas covered during the course were:

  • Benefits of Risk Management

  • Levels of Decision Making

  • Risk management process

  • Passenger Risk Indicators

  • Cargo Risk Assessment

  • Vessel and Vehicle profiling

MRA hosted a dinner in honour of the participants and delegates which was attended by the

Free Medical Check-Up at MRA

Since its inception in July 2006, the MRA has constantly endeavored to find out ways and means to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of its workforce. As a caring organization, it has always catered for the welfare of its staff. In this context, MRA organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Quality of Life, a 5-day medical check-up for staffs at the Ehram Court, MRA from 22 to 26 February 2010. A similar exercise will be carried out shortly for MRA staffs at Customs Department.

The launching of the mobile clinic at work initiative was effected by Dr the Honorable Rajeshwar Jeetah, Minister of Health and Quality of Life in the presence of the Chairperson of MRA Board, Mr. V. Hassamal and the Director General , MRA, Mr. M S Lal. A team of 15 persons from the Ministry of Health and Quality of Life were involved in this activity. The tests included: Height and Weight measurement, Blood pressure measurement, Blood Test, Vision Test, Breast and Cervical Cancer screening for women, Counseling/ Health Education among others. Botswana Mission

 

A delegation from the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry responsible for public sector reforms of the Government of Botswana met the management team of the MRA on 23 February 2010 at MRA headquarters, Port Louis.

The delegation was on mission in Mauritius from 22 to 24 February 2010. The objective of this mission was to benchmark the processes with our counterparts in the region who have already undertaken reforms.

Meeting with World Bank at MRA Head Quarters

 

The MRA welcomed a delegation from the World Bank on 8 February 2010 at its headquarters in Port Louis. The team was in Mauritius in the context of “Mauritius Skills and Technology Adoption Project”. In parallel, the delegates met with different Government Departments and institutions to discuss the Mauritius Business Growth Scheme for a detailed design and development.

 

MRA Annual Report 2007/2008 nominated for award

The MRA Annual Report 2007/2008 won the 3rd annual report prize under the category “Public Interest Entities” at the Corporate Reporting Awards 2010 organised by PricewaterhouseCoopers. The Award aimed at rewarding excellence in corporate reporting based on 3 assessments criteria namely content, clarity and consistency of theme and message. MRA was the only parastatal body in its Category, the other nominees being Standard Bank (eventual winner), Harel Mallac , FUEL and Harel Freres.
