Origins and Development
The Mauritius
Standards Bureau was established as a division of the Ministry
of Commerce and Industry by the Standards Act of 1975.
It is now a body corporate governed by The Mauritius Standards
Bureau Act 1993, which gives the Bureau greater flexibility
and autonomy, and caters for its vital role in the industrialization
of Mauritius.
With its new, purpose-built headquarters at Moka and its state-of-the-art
laboratories and equipment, MSB is now able to play its intended
role more effectively than ever before.
Management
and staff
MSB is administered
and controlled by a Board of Directors called the Standards
Council which comprises of representatives from various sectors
of the Mauritian economy.
Activities
and Services
The overriding
focus of MSB is to help turn Mauritius into a quality manufacturing
and service centre.
The Bureau's
main areas of activity are Metrology,Standards, testing and
Quality Assurance (MSTQ)
International
Affiliations
MSB is a member
of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO)
and represents Mauritius in the Africa Regional Organization
for Standardization (ARSO). MSB participates actively in Southern
African Development Community (SADC) and the Common Market
for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) cooperation programs
on Standardization, Quality and Metrology.
