CALIBRATTION

The bureau is the custodian of the national measurement standards in Mauritius. The Metrology Division's purpose-built laboratories house the national standards for mass, length, pressure, force, temperature, DC voltage and resistance. the national measurement standards are calibrated at regular intervals at overseas national measurement laboratories to ensure traceability of measurements to international standards.
MSB deals with industrial metrology whereby calibration of instruments and working standards are performed on a voluntary basis both in-house and in-situ. Calibration of weights and measures used in trade in Mauritius is the responsibility of the Legal Metrology Division of the Ministry of Industry and International Trade. In order to avoid duplication, MSB calibrates instruments in the areas of length and mass if the accuracy is higher than the laid down in the Legal Metrology Act. The secondary measurement standards for mass and length maintained by the Legal Metrology Division are calibrated at periodic intervals by MSB in order to ensure traceability of measurement in trade.
The calibration services also enable in-situ calibration of temperature installations such as ovens, cold-rooms and freezers.
