AND IFORMATION CENTER
The Documentation
and Information Centre of MSB is the national reference library
for current Mauritian, foreign and international standards
and related publications. The Centre has a collection of over
125 000 standards from 400 standards-developing bodies worldwide
and maintains reference data on CD ROM. It holds complete
sets of British Standards and International Standards from
ISO, South African Standards and ASTM standards, as well as
partial sets of Indian Standards, Australian Standards and
French Standards. More than 10,000 documents, in the form
of books, periodicals, new standards, amendments or revised
editions of existing standards , from National Standards Bodies
of other countries are processed immediately after reception
so as to keep the collection up-to-date.
The reading room of the Documentation and
Information Centre is spacious and comfortable; easy access
to databases for standards and books on computer is provided.
It is also the enquiry point in respect to
standards, technical regulations and conformity assessment
procedures in force in Mauritius under the agreement on Technical
Barriers to Trade of the World Trade Organisation (TBT-WTO).
Through its close contacts with its counterparts
worldwide, it is iminently placed to assist local exporters
with similar information concerning other countries.
Infromation on recent developments in standardization
is available at the Centre from the various journals and bulletin
to which the Bureau subscribes, as well as from its rich collection
of books on Quality, ISO 9000, Total Quality Management, etc.
A Membership Scheme for the business community
is available. Under this scheme, members are allowed to borrow
one book and one periodical at one time, and are given free
copies of various MSB's publications as well as a discount
on purchase of Mauritian Standards. Besides other services,
the centre offers a colour photocopying service to all institutions
in need of this facility.
The centre is open to the public for reference
purposes, free of cost. They can obtain assistance from its
qualified staff, and purchase, at low cost, technical documents
related to standards.
