Computer Security Day 2005
Computer Security Day (CSD) is an annual event that is
observed worldwide on the 30th November. It was initiated in
1988 by
Association for Computer Security Day to help raise
awareness of computer related security issues.
Objective
The main objective of the Computer Security Day is to
remind people to protect their computers and information.
The Need for
Information Security
Both government agencies and private sector entities
are now making full use of information and communications
technologies. The convergence of computing and communications
technologies has greatly facilitated the dissemination of
personal information across the globe, principally via the
Internet and electronic mail. The rapid expansion of mobile
communications and messaging services is enhancing the ability
of people to disseminate personal information both quickly and
cheaply for work and social purposes. Although still
predominantly English-language based, the Internet now has users
located throughout the globe communicating in many languages,
and developing nations, in particular, are seeing dramatic
growth in their use of online services. With increasing amounts
of data travelling electronically, risks of misappropriation,
manipulation and misuse have become an issue.
