Regional Cooperation – Insurance Supervision

Exchange programme between insurance regulators of Tanzania, Kenya and Mauritius

 

A joint delegation from Tanzania and Kenya is currently in Mauritius, in view of an attachment exchange programme at the Financial Services Commission. This is being organised within the Committee on Insurance, Securities and Non-banking financial Authorities (CISNA) framework of the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC).

 

The delegation comprises four members from the Insurance Supervision Department (ISD)-Ministry of Finance of Tanzania and two members from the Department of Insurance-Ministry of Finance of Kenya. They have had work sessions with local insurance supervisory counterparts, the FSC, during this week till Friday 20 January.

 

The delegation participated in presentations organised by the FSC on the regulatory and legal framework of the insurance sector in Mauritius, as well as on the existing structures for building consumer awareness and enhancing consumer protection. In turn, the visitors have shared their country experience on supervisory issues regarding the insurance business.

 

CISNA comprises 12 member countries, namely Angola, Botswana, Congo, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Kenya attends as observer whilst Madagascar is expected to join CISNA shortly.
