In 1989, the African Cultural Centre Trust Fund was set up through an Act of the Parliament of Mauritius. In May 2000,the African Cultural Centre Trust Fund Act was amended by the National Assembly and replaced by the Nelson Mandela Centre for African Culture Trust Fund Act. One of the objectives of the Centre is to do research and to reflect on the impact slavery has had in Mauritius.
