National Union Catalogue

In line with its Strategic Plan 2003-2005, the National Library has started compiling the National Union Catalogue (NUC) – a master catalogue of Mauritiana library materials from several academic, public and special libraries in Mauritius.

This Union Catalogue, the first of its kind in Mauritius, will be used as a tool for library resource sharing, that is, inter-library loan for the benefit of information seekers in general. To date, 2,869 entries have already been entered in the NUC database.

- The Simone de Beauvoir Library (Quatre-Bornes)

- The Malcolm de Chazal Public Library (Vacoas-Phoenix)

The input of bibliographical data of the holdings of other libraries like the Mahatma Gandhi Institute Library, the City Library of Port Louis, the Police Library and the Knowledge Centre of Enterprise Mauritius (ex-Trade Information Centre of MIDA) and the National Resource Centre (Mauritius College of the Air) into the online system is in progress. Negotiations are going on with other libraries to participate in this project.
