The Carnival was organised on the 22 April 2006, in close collaboration with the Municipality of Beau Bassin-Rose Hill. The departure took place in the yard of the Municipality and ended at the Gaetan Duval Stadium where various participants performed on a podium.
Some 2000 children from 50 organisations participated. They were dressed in colourful costumes and masks depicting several aspects of violence.
The Carnival was an opportunity for all children irrespective of their background to learn about their rights, to reflect on violence against children and to be aware of the negative impact of violence on children and on society as a whole. It was really a creative way of reflecting on a sensitive subject. Many workshops had been organised prior to the Carnival to sensitise adults and children on the various types of violence. They were told that violence is preventable and that each one has a role to play to build peace and stability.
They were also trained in mask and costume masking, music and dance.
Two songs were composed and arranged specially for the occasion.
