Music and traditional dances

Mauritius and Rodrigues share the same sega tradition, but the rodriguan approach is particular. Rodrigues also dances local variations of polka and waltz that has become to-day typical and traditional dances. Quadrille is almost a national dance. The diatonic accordion is the instrument adopted by the Rodriguans. Recently the accordionists have gathered in an association in order to perpetuate the practice of this art and ensure its transmission to the youth. An accordionist day is celebrated each 15th of August: on that day, Malabar becomes the capital of the accordion.
