Theme for Safer Internet Day 2010
   
Safer Internet Day is being held worldwide on 9th February 2010. The theme for the event is “Think B4 U Post”, which focuses on how images are managed online and consequently, how privacy is dealt in digital environments.
   
Activities being held in Mauritius
   
In line with the recommendations of the Child Safety Online Action Plan, a Safer Internet Day Committee has been set up by the National Computer Board to plan activities for the event.

The following activities are being organised for Safer Internet Day 2010:
   
(a)
A half-day workshop on Social Networking Principles is being held on the 9th February 2010 at MGI targeting ICT primary school teachers. This workshop is a joint initiative of CERT-MU, National Computer Board (NCB), Ministry of Education, Culture and Human Resources and IT Security Unit, Ministry of Information and Communication Technology. The objective of this workshop is to sensitise the representatives of primary schools about the risks posed to children and young people, directly and indirectly, through the use of their images, particularly on the Internet and other electronic media and also on how the improper use of Internet technologies lead to cyberbullying and other adverse impacts on the youth.

(b)
Launching of pamphlets on Social Networking and Cyberbullying during the workshop.
   
(c)
Awareness sessions on Internet Safety for children of secondary schools organised jointly by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Human Resources, CERT-MU, NCB and IT Security Unit, Ministry of Information and Communication Technology and the PSSA during the months of February and March 2010.
   
(d)
Awareness sessions on Internet Safety for parents and young people through the NCB Cyber caravans during the month of February 2010.
   
(e)
Dissemination of brochures on Internet Safety for Children in schools and in community centres.
   
(f)
A video clip on dangers of Social Networking websites for children to be produced in collaboration with the Mauritius College of the Air (MCA). The clip would be broadcasted on MBC TV.
   
(g)
Workshop on code of conduct for Internet Usage in schools. This workshop is a joint-collaboration between the Ministry of Education, Culture and Human Resources and IT Security Unit of the Ministry of Information Communication Technology, and is targeted towards fee paying schools.
   
(h)
A Conference on Online Counseling for Children on the 3rd February 2010, organised by the Internet Child Safety Foundation (ICSF).
   
(i)
A website (http://www.ncb.mu/sid) on safety tips for parents and children with regards to social networking sites and cyberbullying.
