Safer Internet Day 2011 will be celebrated on Tuesday 8th February. This International annual event is organised by European Internet Safety Network (INSAFE) and takes place every February to promote safe and responsible use of the Internet and mobile phone technologies, especially amongst children and young people.

Safer Internet Day will be celebrated in Mauritius on 8th of February 2011. It is expected that Safer Internet Day 2011 will be celebrated in over 60 countries worldwide. The theme for this  event is "our virtual lives" around the slogan “It’s more than a game, it's your life".

The topic 'virtual lives' encompasses online gaming and virtual lives, the two online activities quite popular around the world amongst the youth. The theme is aimed at raising awareness among young people regarding the threats associated with online gaming and virtual lives.  

The following activities are being organised by the NCB for the Safer Internet Day 2011:-    

  • Half day Workshop on the theme “It’s more than a game, it's your life”

  • Organise awareness sessions in schools on Internet Safety for children with the collaboration of the Ministry of Education and Human Resources and IT Security Unit during the month of February and March 2011.  
     
  • Awareness sessions on Internet Safety for parents and youngsters through the NCB Cyber caravans during the month of February 2011.

  • Dissemination of a brochure and fact sheets on Virtual life and online gaming in schools and community centres.

  • Organisation of a quiz during the workshop on 8th February 2011.
