SMEDA organizes training programmes and seminars, workshops and conferences of short duration in regional centres across the country for Skills development and capacity building among SMEs. These need-based training programs are affordable, appropriate and innovative. These programs are aimed at improving knowledge and competencies in the technical, marketing, financial, compliance, policy, regulatory, legal, commercial and other important functions of enterprises.
SMEDA provides training on two aspects- Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management Programs and Skill-based Training. The management-based programs help to improve major performance indicators such as productivity, quality, competitiveness and sustainability etc. The results include improvement in communication skills and marketing, human resource development and managerial capacity building etc. These programs help decreasing the level of SME mortality and increasing efficiency.
The Entrepreneurship Development Programme is organised on a regular basis and dispensed to all registered entrepreneurs. SMEDA is putting emphasis on EDP courses and makes it compulsory to all recently registered SMEs. The courses are conducted at the Training Centre of SMEDA, Coromandel. The modules comprise of :

- Costing and Pricing
- Marketing & Selling Techniques
- Information Technology
- Other Business Related Fields
Skills Development Training
During the period July 2005 to December 2011, SMEDA has organized over 100 Craft Training Courses for the benefit of 3500 entrepreneurs namely in Basketry, Fibre Craft, Textile, Jewelery, Ceramics etc.. Technical Workshops on aspects of Quality, Packaging, Import and Export Procedures etc. were conducted during year 2011 and were attended by some 200 entrepreneurs.
In year 2012, SMEDA will provide additional courses such as Pottery, Wall Hanging with Natural Fibres and Surface Painting to follow the trends in the Handicraft sector.
Some other technical courses will also be carried out such as Packaging and Labelling, Product Development, Product Design and Creativity. These new courses proved to be very popular among the participants and same would be repeated this year. SMEDA Calendar of Training February to July 2012
